41 PARK
41 Park Avenue, 12C, NY, NY 10016
Miranda McClintic is pleased to announce the opening of her new presentation space,
41 PARK, exhibiting Distant Views: Works on Paper by Sara Garden Armstrong.
Three groups of drawings translate the abstract organic forms observed in nature. The works evoke the rugged and flowing areas of the world, and mimic the systems that insure regeneration.
Notations
(Pastel, graphite, gel medium, plastic mount, variable dimensions)
Armstrong takes a found line derived from nature, breaking and extending it both in theme and form. Interstices of the artist's marks on layers of gel medium are a literal equivalent to the transparency of the water and the traces of the past it reveals. The visceral sensation is like a view through geological time.
Landslips
(Pastel, graphite, gel medium, plastic mount, 4 x 6 x 1")
These miniature representaions of landscapes with subtle and wispy atmospheres are portals to another surreal world that appears as if stopped in time. They are studies - isolated, and even preserved - for us to study, as they gently cling to their plastic shells, awaiting entrance.
Littorals
(Graphite, pastel, acrylic on paper, 80" x 120")
Large-scale drawings based on lines left by the changing winds and tides on the Atlantic Ocean's shores, both in Brittany and Long Island. Over the course of several months, Armstrong photographed the wind and watermarks formed in the sand. She projected these photographic images onto paper and reworked them using stencils, airbrush, graphite, pastel and erasure. The resulting drawings suggest the landscape of a place as an ever changing sequence of moments.
